Casters,
The MetaZoo Community has been buzzing with excitement lately, but also grappling with a growing sense of uncertainty. Recently, large quantities of MetaZoo's old product—booster boxes, blister packs, spellbooks, and even some of the game’s rarest cards—have surfaced on platforms like eBay (via eVendHQ) and Whatnot (via g_w_o_a_t). While more product availability may seem like a win for fans, it’s raised important questions about how this inventory is being handled and the potential impact on the market.
Let’s dive into what’s happening, why it matters, and how we as a community can navigate this together.
Rare Cards in Unexpected Places
One of the biggest surprises has been the appearance of grail cards—rare promos, serialized cards, and other high-value MetaZoo items—being sold on Whatnot for prices much lower than expected. These cards, originally thought to exist in very limited quantities, were once prized centerpieces of many collections. But their sudden availability in larger numbers has led to concerns about market devaluation.
For many collectors, these cards represented significant investments, both financially and emotionally. Seeing such rare items go for cheap is understandably frustrating for those who worked hard to acquire them. It also raises questions: Were these cards part of the inventory acquired by MetaTwo LLC during MetaZoo’s bankruptcy proceedings? And if so, how did they make their way into the hands of resellers like g_w_o_a_t?
While g_w_o_a_t on Whatnot has drawn the most attention due to its auctions of grail cards, their eBay presence, eVendHQ, has also become a significant source in the resale of old MetaZoo products. Unlike Whatnot’s live auction format, eVendHQ has quietly listed thousands of items, including booster boxes and blister packs. Although there’s less controversy surrounding their eBay offerings, the lack of transparency about how they acquired this inventory has left some fans wondering about the broader handling of MetaZoo’s old product.
Community Questions & Perspectives
The sudden influx of product has led to mixed reactions within the MetaZoo community.
For newer fans or those who missed out on early releases, this is an opportunity to acquire products and cards that were previously out of reach. The increased availability is helping some fans fill gaps in their collections without breaking the bank. One can argue that increased accessibility of the old product can only benefit fans of the new iteration by increasing MetaZoo hype and consumption.
On the flip side, veteran collectors are concerned about how this surge in supply might affect the perceived rarity and value of their existing cards. This is especially true for serialized cards, which are only meaningful if their scarcity is maintained (or is true). Additionally, community members of all stripes have broad questions about when, where and how these resellers got their hands on existing product. The already shaky MetaZoo market could see further price instability as collectors and sellers adjust to this unexpected development.
One final perspective worth mentioning is the fact that many expensive items such as Revive Skateboards are being sold after being redeemed months earlier with the original MetaZoo company. Some community members are upset as they view those items as theirs; however, this perspective ignores the reality that MetaTwo purchased MetaZoo out of bankruptcy, and they have absolutely no obligation to prior creditors. It's unfortunate that the original company left us in the lurch, but GQL and MetaTwo aren't responsible for sins of the past.
Transparency & Moving Forward
While this situation has created uncertainty, let’s not lose sight of the bigger picture: MetaZoo is heading into an exciting new chapter with its relaunch in Q1 2025. As fans, we have the power to shape the narrative by focusing on what we love about the game—its cryptid theme, evolving world, and the incredible community we’ve built together.
All this to say, that as a community scorned from the past, many of our members want increased transparency not only from GQL, but MetaTwo specifically. This mystery may never be unraveled entirely, but we can be hopeful that sometime down the line we will get answers to these important questions.
As always, we’ll continue to monitor the situation and bring you the latest updates. Together, let’s keep the magic of MetaZoo alive and thriving!
