March 28th marks a historic day for MetaZoo - the official relaunch of the MetaZoo TCG Base Set is finally here! After a long year of anticipation, behind-the-scenes development and community speculation, the game that captured our imagination in 2021 is BACK, reimagined & reinvigorated for a bold new era in 2025.
And make no mistake: this is more than just a card set - it is a revival of the thing that made many of us tick: MetaZoo.
A New Beginning, Rooted in Familiar Lore
Metazoo's 2025 Base Set re-introduces the beloved cryptids, iconic artifacts and strategy that made the original game so memorable - but with all new gameplay mechanics designed to streamline learning, enhance balance and build a lasting competitive scene. Expect a brand new rarity system, clearer card types, and beautifully crafted gameplay zones, all built on a foundation of strategy, skill and storytelling. Every decision - from your deck's composition to your in-game aura choice - matters more than ever.
The Cards: Bigger, Bolder, and Beautiful
If you can get your hands on a base set booster box, you will find 24 packs featuring 11 gameplay cards and 1 aura or token card. Inside those packs, players will find: Commons, Uncommons, Rares, Super Rares and textured alternate arts that remove the traditional card barriers.
At Collect-A-Con, be prepared to get your hands on some Alpha Demo Packs that will contain a fully playable mini-deck for the demo version of the game. Good news: All of those cards in the alpha pack are 100% playable in the full game, meaning you can build out those alpha decks after getting a good feel for how they play!
Fans have already spotted new alt arts for favorites like Sun Wukong, Rainbow Crow and Sword of Surtr, offering a glimpse at the high standard of design set for this new chapter.
A World of Lore & Learning Awaits
The new official MetaZoo website is live and it's packed with resources including: An interactive Learn to Play tutorial series, a living lore library curated by expert writers, and an expansive card list (though some surprises remain unspoiled!). Combined with the release of the MetaZoo Magazine, which includes exclusive promo packs and artist interviews, this launch aims to be as much about the world of MetaZoo as the cards themselves.
The production quality of the new MetaZoo TCG far outpaces its predecessor, and makes learning about the game, its lore and strategy fun and easy for anyone! We highly recommend checking out their tutorial series and looking through the card list!
Artists, Collectors and Convention Surprises
This weekend at the Miami Collect-A-Con, Casters can expect: Convention exclusive promo cards, artist signings from Jett Yates and Lillie McKay, demo games featuring the new ruleset with Alpha Decks, and limited edition MetaZoo Magazines and base set products available for purchase.
