Three New Creatures Revealed
This week’s MetaZoo Monday featured a trio of new spoilers that highlight the game’s expanding global reach and diverse artistic direction. Charlie Hurlocker unveiled new cards from the upcoming Secret Shadows set, each representing a different Aura type and region of the world.
The revealed cards included Grafton Monster from West Virginia, Bakunawa from the Philippines, and Teke Teke from Japan - three distinct cryptids with equally distinct playstyles and visual designs.
Grafton Monster
The first reveal of the night was Grafton Monster, an Earth Aura Beastie that costs 5 Aura to play and carries 7 Influence. The card’s muted green-blue hue and fog-drenched artwork by Joe Olson capture the creature’s eerie reputation from Grafton, West Virginia.
The ability, Grafton Bash, allows a player to tap one Dark Aura to duel a creature with a Hex counter. The card also carries the “Unique” designation, meaning only one can be in play at a time. With its combination of power and targeted disruption, Grafton Monster brings a defensive yet unpredictable tool to Earth decks.
Bakunawa – Alt Art
The next card to appear was an alternate art of Bakunawa, a Dark Aura Beastie inspired by Filipino mythology. The card costs 6 Aura to play and wields 12 Influence, making it one of the more imposing creatures revealed so far.
In place of a traditional ability, Bakunawa features the keyword Gigantic 2, meaning it occupies two additional lane spaces when played. The artwork, created by Kate Becker, depicts the moon-devouring serpent coiled against a dim celestial backdrop, rendered in dark blues and silvers that emphasize its size and mythic presence.
Teke Teke
Closing out the evening was Teke Teke, a Fire Aura card that costs 2 Aura and carries 2 Influence. Illustrated by Poncho, the card captures the haunting tone of the Japanese urban legend that inspired it.
Its ability, Unrestricted Vengeance, allows the player to sacrifice a unit to deal 2 damage to each opposing unit in that lane. The ability carries the “Unlimited” tag, meaning it can be activated multiple times per round—creating strong potential for combo-heavy decks that can reliably produce sacrificial units.
A Worldwide Focus
Together, these reveals show MetaZoo’s continued push to spotlight cryptids and legends from around the world. Each card introduces fresh mechanics and art styles while maintaining the thematic roots that define the series. As Secret Shadows approaches release, these global additions set the stage for one of MetaZoo’s most visually and mechanically varied sets to date.
